I love a great story and enjoy telling one myself. However, if I am reading alone, educational books are what you will find in my hands ninety-nine percent of the time. I simply LOVE to learn! You would think by now, I would be a genius! Unfortunately, somewhere along the busy road of life while raising all these children and animals, I have lost my memory! Perhaps, I have misplaced it in the basement while looking for that missing piece to the loom? Then again, maybe I lost it when I was searching behind the secretary desk for the missing letter that I finally got around to finishing!
IF ONLY, I had misplaced my memory in the bookshelf, for it is there I frequent most.
My children, on the other hand, love to spend time reading novels and short stories. I never imagined I would have to tell my children to stop reading. You will often hear me say, “put that book down and go do your chores!” I think it is of the utmost importance to develop within a young child’s heart a strong desire to read. By the teenage years, that desire will mature into a passion that will be with the youth for a lifetime. So much can be learned through quality books.
During the winter, we do spend many evenings reading before the warmth of the fire. While the fire paints dancing shadows throughout the room, we find ourselves transported into someone else’s world. Often, a world full of triumphs, trials and a love for God. I want to encourage you to take time to read to your children! It is one of my family’s favorite activities.
I have listed just some of our favorites under the following categories: Spiritual, Family, Farming, Health, and Nutrition. Simply scroll down. I will make additions when the good old Michigan wind is howling and the temperature is below 30!
Just the thought of it makes me shiver! Just so you know, I am NOT compensated for referring you to them. I simply highly recommend them
HELP FOR THE FAMILY
The Bible is our most precious book. It is where we begin our relationship with our Father Creator. Within its pages, we learn who He is and who we are. His story of love towards us unfolds as Christ Jesus willing accepts the horrific penalty of our sin. I highly recommend studying this book on a daily basis. We prefer the New American Standard and the New King James.
Norm Wakefield: Equipped to Love, This book really helped us love unconditionally!Nothing glorifies God more than when we love with His kind of love. In a self-centered world such as ours, nothing stands out more than someone who knows how to love from a pure heart. Healthy, God-glorifying, enduring relationships depend upon the flow of God’s love. But that’s not an easy thing to facilitate. Although we know we ought to love, we don’t come by it naturally. Equipped to Love presents practical insights into the dynamic of what hinders one’s freedom to love with God’s kind of love!
Norm Wakefield: Anchored in Christ, the Solid Rock in the Storms of Life, This book was so helpful to Jeff & I. We bought many so to be able to encourage others. It will help prepared for a Category 4 or 5 trial? Ask yourself, “Is your theological and spiritual foundation solid enough that when you face daily trials or temptations, your faith keeps you anchored in peace?” Being firmly anchored in biblical truth is vital to your witness for Christ and your ability to glorify God in life. Your heart will be encouraged and challenged as you study God’s Word and apply it to daily events. The result will be an unshakable faith anchored in Christ.

Archer Wallace: Daring Deeds, “Compelling, true accounts of the dangerous expeditions of courageous men who dared to risk their lives for the sake of murderers, thieves, and even cannibals. My husband gave this book to our daughter while on a special lunch date with her. After returning home they read the book together. I would encourage fathers to do something similar with their daughters. My daughter loves the story and the beautiful watercolor paintings.
